With PUMA, the distinction between Authentic and Replica matters. Replica is also the name of an official supporter version. The word on its own therefore does not mean that a shirt is a fake.
1. Replica can be an official version
For the Borussia Dortmund 24/25 Cup shirt, PUMA describes two versions: Authentic and Replica. Authentic uses ULTRAWEAVE; according to PUMA, Replica has a looser fit. Both are described in the same official announcement.
So you cannot reject a supporter shirt because it differs from a player-oriented version. First establish which version the seller says they are offering. A high price tag, a particular size or the word authentic in an advertisement is no substitute for that check.
2. Use technology as a model feature
In the announcement for this Dortmund shirt, PUMA names dryCELL for both versions and RE:FIBRE for the Replica. That shows why a single technology logo is not a simple real/fake test. A label can give you information about the model, but it must fit the rest of the shirt.
This information applies to the described model. Do not apply it without a source to a PUMA shirt from another year, another team or another product line. For vintage, preferably look for a reference from the right period.
3. Take all product details with you
Photograph the inner labels and write down any article and colour codes in full. Then search by code, team and version. Check whether the page you find really is about the same shirt and not about a training shirt or a different colour variant.
A matching code makes comparison possible, but does not authenticate the physical shirt. Then look at the fabric structure, collar, panels, sponsor and badge attachment. A loose hangtag without a clear link to the shirt is less useful than photos of the complete example and its sewn-in labels.
4. Place these parts next to the reference
Ask for sharp images without colour filters and use more than one reliable source if possible.
- Front and back, plus the full side panels.
- All inner labels and any article code.
- Club badge, PUMA logo and sponsor, also from the inside.
- Collar and sleeve edges up close.
- Measurements, taken in the same way as for your own shirt.
5. Do not draw a conclusion from a single difference
A comparison between the wrong versions can look suspicious without cause. First check season, home/away/third, size category and the intended version. Then ask about printing, repairs or replaced parts.
Even an official Authentic version from retail is not automatically match worn. Such a claim requires documentation of that specific shirt. If provenance or version stays unclear, describe that uncertainty and look for extra evidence. The brand name, fabric technology and a matching product code together are useful research data, but not a guarantee in themselves.
